The Practice

A thoughtful, whole-person approach to health

Welcome to my website. I offer acupuncture and therapeutic massage with a thoughtful, whole-person approach. My work combines Classical Chinese medicine, a modern understanding of stress-related symptoms, and a deep interest in the connection between mind, body and emotional wellbeing.

Sessions are unhurried, attentive and tailored to the individual. I take time to listen carefully, to gain a full picture of my patient's health incorporating the time-tested tools of oriental pulse diagnosis, birth chart interpretation, face, tongue and body diagnosis as well as asking gentle questions before determining a treatment plan made just for you.

Understanding Acupuncture

An ancient system of healing, refined over three millennia

Acupuncture is a long-established system of healing with a clinical history of over 3,000 years. It is rooted in Classical Chinese philosophy and understands health as a dynamic, ever-changing relationship between the body, mind, emotions and the natural world.

Classical acupuncture recognises a vital energy known as Qi, which flows throughout the body in channels known as meridians. Acupuncture points are located along these channels at specific sites where the flow of energy can be influenced.

By carefully observing the internal condition of each patient, the practitioner aims to identify and gently correct patterns of imbalance. Very fine needles are placed into carefully chosen points to stimulate the body's natural healing and rebalancing response.

The treatment is gentle, deeply relaxing, and for many people a surprisingly calming experience.

Questions & Answers

Common questions

Your first appointment is longer than a follow-up and begins with a thorough conversation about your health, symptoms, lifestyle and overall wellbeing. Simon takes time to understand the full picture before forming any assessment. The treatment itself follows, using carefully chosen acupuncture points. You are welcome to ask questions at any stage.

Most people are pleasantly surprised by how gentle acupuncture is. The needles are very fine, far thinner than the needles used for injections, and insertion is usually almost imperceptible. Some people notice a mild sensation of heaviness or tingling around the needle, which is considered a positive sign. The overall experience is typically calm and deeply relaxing.

This varies considerably from person to person and depends on the nature of your condition, how long you have had it, and how your body responds to treatment. Some people notice changes after one or two sessions; others benefit from a longer course of treatment. Simon will discuss this with you openly and keep you informed as treatment progresses.

Many people seek acupuncture specifically for support with stress, anxiety and stress-related physical symptoms. Simon has particular clinical interest in this area and has completed postgraduate training with SIRPA in the connections between emotional factors, mental patterns and physical symptoms. Treatment is always tailored to the individual.

Yes. Swedish massage can be offered alongside acupuncture where this is appropriate. Simon will discuss the most suitable approach at your initial consultation and can advise on whether a combined approach might be beneficial for you.
